Professor Lyn Beazley

Patron

Professor Lyn Beazley has been the Patron of Alike WA since 2014.

After graduating from Oxford and Edinburgh Universities, Lyn built an internationally renowned research team in Neuroscience that focused on recovery from brain damage, much of her investigations undertaken as Winthrop Professor at The University of Western Australia.

Lyn was Chief Scientist of WA from 2006 to 2013, advising the Government on science, innovation and technology and acting as an ambassador for science locally, nationally and internationally. In 2013 Lyn was inducted into the WA Science Hall of Fame and was appointed Sir Walter Murdoch Distinguished Professor of Science at Murdoch University. In 2014 Lyn was the recipient of the WA section of the Australian of the Year Awards.

Eimear Quigley

Chair

Eimear is a Clinical Psychologist and the Clinical Manager at Amherst Psychology.  She also maintains a small consultancy/supervision private practice and an Adjunct Senior Lecturer position with Edith Cowan University. Eimear has a lifelong passion for helping others and over the last 20 years, has worked across the mental health, child protection, first responder and disability sectors. Working as a clinical psychologist and senior leader in government, non-government and private industries in Perth, regional WA and at a National level across Australia has given her a strong grounding and focus on compassionately healing others. At Amherst Psychology, she extends this person-centred humanistic approach to supporting a neuro-affirming and trauma-informed psychology practice where psychologists can thrive in providing psychological services to the community. Eimear enthusiastically brings her experience and knowledge to the role of Board Chair with Alike. Since 2019, she has contributed to strategic thinking and direction as a member of the Executive Committee (Secretary 2020-2024) and in 2022 took on the additional role of member representative, as a member of the Peel ADHD Parent Support Group. Caring for neurodiverse family members and being part of a Support Group to connect with others in similar experiences helps her to bring the voice of lived experience to the Board discussions. She believes that the solution to human suffering is human connection, and that grassroots Support Groups with people who have lived experience are an essential part of this solution.

Jonine Collins

Vice Chair

Jonine has worked for more than 25 years in the health and community services sector. This has included management and senior executive roles across these sectors, with a particular focus on primary health care and public health. She has overseen the implementation of many innovative community programs and clinical services, including mental health, suicide prevention, chronic disease, disability, aged care and services to the Aboriginal community, homeless and other marginalised populations. Her various roles have provided her with considerable experience in advocacy, leadership, strategy, not-for-profit governance and government contracting both at the State and Commonwealth level.

Jonine has currently taken over the leadership role at Hannah’s House. Her previous role was as State Manager WA and SA for the Stroke Foundation and she also sits on another NFP Board and Council. Through her work, she feels passionate about the valuable role that Self Help and Support Groups play in our community by providing support to those feeling isolated, providing access to evidence-based information to feel empowered and most importantly assist with emotional and mental health well-being for the individual and their family whilst they are adjusting to living with an ongoing health issue, chronic condition or disability.

Peta Van Heurck

Secretary

Peta is the Co-Director of Wood Recruitment, WA’s leading boutique recruitment agency. She currently sits on the External Board of UWA Nedlands Soccer Club and has previously been on the Football West Standing Committee. With a Masters in Commerce and a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management, Peta has a strong background in business direction, overseeing internal processes, and implementing and maintaining best practice procedures and processes.

Through her role on the Alike Board of Management, Peta aims to support the efficient running of the organisation, shape and drive best practices, and contribute to decisions about planning, resources, strategic direction, goals and activities of the organisation.

Milindha de Mel

Treasurer

Milindha is a highly driven board member, who advocates bringing people together to achieve a common objective. Coming from a strong and versatile background in finance, Milindha’s proven analytical skills, paired with his ability to engage and motivate people on their journey, makes him an asset. He champions the ideology that leadership hinged on inclusivity yields better team performance and exercises a strong ‘open-door policy’ in every role he undertakes. His unique attributes as a leader and a person have served him well across various sectors, including banking, finance, renewable energy, telecommunications, asset finance, FMCG and retail.

With a burning desire to give back to the community, Milindha recently stepped into the role of President of the West Australian Sri Lankan Association (WASLA) and continues to seek opportunities to strengthen the community. Milindha has a soft passion for aged care, and envisions helping connect thriving communities, by fostering empowerment among peer support groups across Western Australia.

Currently, Milindha works as a Finance and Business Analyst for the Department of Health (Health Support Services) and is also an active member of our board.

Conrad Pires

Member

Conrad Pires has a background in emerging technologies and has worked across a diverse range of industries, both locally and overseas. With a focus on critical thinking, innovation and understanding the customer, he currently runs his own business in the space industry, using it to solve everyday problems here on Earth. He’s also a sessional university educator helping to develop Australia’s next generation smart workforce.

He is an MBA and Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD) graduate and has spent over a decade on NFP boards in both executive and non-executive positions. He brings this experience, along with an outside perspective, to the Alike Board of Management, providing guidance and insight to help the organisation successfully support its current and future members.

Ross Campbell

Support Group Representative

Ross Campbell is a seasoned board director with extensive experience in business management and not-for-profit leadership. After founding and operating an electrical contracting business from 1971 to 2001, he served on the Electrical Licensing Board and as a Sessional Member of the State Administrative Tribunal, a role he continues to hold. Diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2013, Ross joined Prost! Exercise 4 Prostate Cancer and embraced its mantra of Muscle, Mateship, and Mood. He served as Prost!’s Support Group Leader and later as a board member, contributing as secretary and chairperson. Ross also served on the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia’s National Support and Community Outreach Committee. His leadership helped Prost! grow, supporting men in rebuilding confidence and wellness. A passionate advocate for peer support, Ross now brings his lived experience and expertise to the Alike Board, continuing his commitment to community well-being.

Amanda Muir

Chief Executive Officer

Amanda discovered her passion for community services while volunteering at a cancer support centre, which led her to join Alike in 2014. With over a decade of experience in the peer support sector, Amanda has held various roles within Alike and remains deeply committed to advancing community-driven initiatives that empower individuals, families, and carers. Her Bachelor’s Degree in Communications and her marketing background have supported her to advocate and raise awareness of Alike and the vital role peer support plays in health and mental health promotion. Outside of work, Amanda enjoys creative writing, singing, and playing the guitar.

Gemma Hughes

Operations Manager

Gemma joined Alike in 2023, bringing extensive experience across diverse industries, including IT, mining, and healthcare. Outside of work, Gemma is kept busy by her teenage and pre-teen sons and enjoys reading, tackling never ending home renovations, and soaking up the sun on family holidays.

Kathryn Stewart

Engagement Manager

Kathryn became a valued member of the Alike team in early 2024, bringing her deep passion for wellness, health, and community to her role. With a strong background in advising and empowering lived experience voices in health research, alongside a Bachelor’s degree in Health Promotion, Kathryn is dedicated to making a meaningful impact. Outside of work, she enjoys cooking, paddling on the river, and slowly mastering the art of ceramics.

Emily Mostyn-Brown

Engagement Officer – Training and Development

Emily joined Alike in July 2022 to co-design and run the Rare, Genetic and Undiagnosed Conditions Sector Development Program.  Since then, she has stepped into a wider sector development role and networking events.  A former circus artist and professional actress, Emily moved to Australia in 2016.  She is an avid reader and loves spending hours on adventures with her dog Archie.

Lisa Ticehurst

Engagement Officer – Grants and Membership

Lisa was thrilled to join the Alike team in early 2024. After spending 12 years at a well-known charity running their grants and scholarship programmes, Lisa brings extensive experience in both the not for profit and grants space. When not at work, Lisa can often be found chauffeuring her young kids around to endless activities or trying to train her seemingly untrainable dog Luna.

Carolina Hernandez

Operations Officer – Administration and Project Support

Carolina joined the Alike team in April 2021 starting out as Volunteer Coordinator to now, as Operations Officer – Administration and Project Support. Originally from Caracas, Venezuela, Carolina has a professional background in Administration, Human Resources, and Procurement. Since moving to Perth in 2006, she has embraced her new home where she enjoys raising her beautiful family, including her beloved fur baby Leia, a Cavoodle. In her spare time, Carolina is passionate about recreating recipes and cooking to nourish her loved ones.

Stacey Kyle-Johnson

Operations Officer – Administration and Communications

Stacey joined the Alike team in early 2024 after living in the South West region of WA, raising her young family and working in various communications and marketing roles. She has a Bachelor of Communications degree and is also a Photographer with a particular passion for capturing Architecture and Interiors. Always happy to talk about the latest book she is reading, podcasts she is listening to and her dog, and English Staffordshire named Stevie.
