Our story
From humble beginnings in 1983, when four inspiring women gathered around a kitchen table, Alike WA (formerly The Western Institute of Self Help or W.I.S.H.) has grown into one of Western Australia’s leading advocates for peer support. Over the past four decades, we’ve expanded to serve more than 780 peer support groups, becoming a trusted name in the sector and a champion for the power of connection and community.
As the needs of our community have evolved, so too have we. After rebranding in 2007 to ConnectGroups, we’ve continuously adapted our approach, ensuring we remain in tune with the changing landscape of peer support.
Today, as Alike WA, we are uniquely positioned to engage and support a new generation of peer support groups while still providing the same invaluable services to established groups. Whether through embracing new technologies, expanding our resources, or innovating our services, we’ve always been committed to staying ahead of the curve.
Our growth is a testament to the lasting impact of peer support, and we are proud to be at the forefront of this movement, fostering a community where everyone has the tools, resources, and connections they need to thrive.
