Beyond the System: How Peer Support Transforms Women’s Health

Alike WA’s Janel Wong will present alongside Jasmyn Hutin from Orana House on:

Beyond the System: How Peer Support Transforms Women’s Health

The session will bring peer support into the broader conversation about women’s health and health equity, creating space to consider the role of lived experience and peer connection alongside formal systems of care and support.

For Alike WA, being part of conversations like these is an important opportunity to increase understanding of peer support and ensure lived experience is represented in discussions about the services and systems that affect people’s lives.

Health Equity for Every Woman

The 2026 conference is centred on the principle that women deserve healthcare that is equitable, inclusive and responsive to their needs.

Across the day, delegates will hear from speakers and participate in panels and interactive workshops exploring research, advocacy and community health initiatives.

The program will consider equity-focused and intersectional approaches to women’s health, bringing together perspectives from government, academia, frontline services, Aboriginal leaders and lived experience advocates.

Keynote speakers announced for the conference include Professor Louise Keogh, Deputy Director of the Centre for Health Equity at the University of Melbourne, and Sarah Brown AM, Chief Executive Officer of Purple House.

Making the conference more accessible

The Centre for Women’s Safety and Wellbeing has also created several options to support broader participation.

A limited number of free tickets are available for people with lived experience, while subsidised tickets have been set aside for smaller organisations where cost may otherwise be a barrier.

With support from the Aboriginal Health Council of Western Australia, ten $1,000 regional travel bursaries are also available to eligible AHCWA Member Services. These are intended to support regional participation from Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services.

People interested in free or subsidised conference tickets can contact the Centre for Women’s Safety and Wellbeing for further information. Eligible AHCWA Member Services interested in a regional travel bursary can submit an Expression of Interest directly to AHCWA.

Why this conversation matters to Alike WA

Peer support creates opportunities for people to connect through shared experience, learn from one another and find understanding outside formal service settings.

Bringing peer support into broader conversations about women’s health helps increase awareness of the contribution lived experience can make to health and wellbeing.

We look forward to joining the 2026 Women’s Health Conference and contributing to a conversation about what health equity can look like when women’s experiences and voices are part of shaping the way forward.
